Australian Aboriginal Art by Kathleen Petyarre

Kathleen Petyarre was born at Atnangkere on Utopia, in 1940 Kathleen originaly worked in batik, then took up painting on canvas as part of CAAMA's Summer Project in 1988-89. Her art directly refers to her country and her Dreaming, including Women Hunting, Emu, Dingo Dreaming and her signature painting of the Mountain Devil Lizard Dreaming. Her art is minimalist, done in a layering technique with very intricate dotting.

Art has been exhibitioned throught Australia, Canada, France, Holland, Ireland, Indonesia and U.S.A.

  • 1996 Winner, 13th Telstra Award, Darwin; 1997 Overall Winner of the Visy Board Art Prize, Barossa Vintage Festival Art Show;
  • 1998, Seppelts Contemporary Art Award, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, NSW; 1998, finalist 15th NATSIAA.
