  • As soul destroying and bleak as this all seems things have begun to change.

    During the 1960's the American Civil Rights Movement among other factors and a new Labour government in power brought attention to the situation of Aboriginal people and gave a platform for Aboriginal leaders to speak out in regard to their claim to traditional lands and the state of their people.

    Aboriginal people were given the right to vote in 1967.

    It is hard to imagine how difficult life had become for these people...how did they survive what was at one point a move to almost total annihilation?

    Certainly the strength of their culture is obvious and was to be tapped in many ways in the struggle to survive and strengthen.
